On Sunday at Muirfield he was photographed using a prototype version of the VR_S Covert Driver. The club was a glued version, with a non-adjustable hosel. The shaft has been confirmed to be the same Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana WhiteBoard 73X shaft that he had in his (current) VR Tour Driver.
Interestingly enough, a fifth version of the VR_S Covert Driver appeared on the USGA’s list of conforming driver heads at the end of June. The timing of this would lead us to believe that the prototype Tiger is testing right now is one and the same… a one-off without the adjustable hosel and weight screw, designed just for him.
No telling if the new VR_S Covert will find its way into his bag at Muirfield, but if it does I’d be shocked if it was put into play very much. And you can guarantee if Tiger’s not 100% committed to the new driver, he’ll keep it on the back burner for now. That rough at Muirfield is nasty. You can’t take chances with that!
