At the Ryder Cup, the world’s top ranked player did what he was supposed to do: win points for his team.
Rory McIlroy played absolutely brilliant golf on his own, and when teamed with partner Sergio Garcia.
A large part of his success was his performance off the tee. Leading up to the Ryder Cup, Rory decided to put a new Nike driver in the bag. Many criticized Rory for making a change the week of the Ryder Cup, but the new driver proved to be a secret weapon, helping him out with extra distance off the tee. Rory commented:
“The first thing I noticed when I hit this driver was how hot it was… Then, I found that I could really control the flight and work it both ways on the golf course. I saw added ball speed on the monitor and am getting 10-15 yards more distance on the golf course this week.”
The new driver blends three technologies, according to Nike. There’s a new FlyBeam reinforced covert cavity back, a re-engineered compression channel, and FlexLoft2.
FlyBeam stiffens the cavity at the back of the club. The updated compression channel increases the spring-like effect across the entire face of the club. FlexLoft2 allows you to adjust for five lofts and three face angles, for a total of 15 different settings. It’s also 30% lighter than the previous gen FlexLoft.
The Nike Vapor Pro driver will be available January 30, 2015 for a MSRP of $479.99, and will come in lofts of 8.5 – 12.5. Mitsubishi Diamana S+ Blue Board 60 shafts are stock, in regular, stiff or x-flex.
