The Puma Golf team recently announced the release of the much hyped Faas Lite Mesh – the lightest shoe in golf at 6.5 ounces! Note – the women’s version is even lighter at 5.5 ounces. It appears the minimalist movement which has transformed the running shoe industry has now set it’s sights on a sport which greatly rewards the players who master the feel and touch of the landscape around them. The logic is there but will golfers take the bait – you be the judge!
Puma’s special design includes a zero heal-to-toe drop, which is meant to simulate a barefoot feeling, and allows golfers to maintain a more natural posture during the swing. To enhance movement and encourage natural foot movement and flexibility, strategically placed corrugated flex grooves have been used. Strangely enough, the shoes do not have spikes but rather employ Puma’s SmartQuill technology which is meant to enhance stability and traction.
Puma also unveiled the Fass Lite, a waterproof version that weighs in slightly higher at 8.7 ounces, so make sure you grab the correct pair if you plan to play in less than favorable conditions.
The Faas Lite Mesh price is $90 for the men’s shoe, $80 for the women’s shoe. The Faas Lite shoes are $10 more respectively. Puma is also selling a limited edition version, Faas Lite Splatter. Inspired by Rickie Fowler’s ‘Golf Art’ in 2010 and design pattern on Cobra Golf’s AMP Cell line of products.
