The PGA Tour is expanding their global reach, again. The PGA Tour China will get started in March of next year. The new tour will join PGA Tour Latinoamerica and PGA Tour Canada as the latest successful ‘satellite’ tours to be operated by the PGA Tour around the globe.
PGA Tour China is a team effort between the PGA Tour, the China Golf Association and the China Olympic Sports Industry. One of the goals of this new tour is to provide players with access to the Web.com tour much like PGA Tour Latinoamerica and PGA Tour Canada.
On the Latinoamerica and Canadian tours, the top 5 players from the money list at the end of the season earn spots on the Web.com tour. PGA Tour commish Tim Finchem did not provide exact details if this would be the same for PGA Tour China, but he did confirm (via statement) that the tour would provide access to the Web.com Tour.
The golf boom in China continues, and the PGA Tour China will no doubt provide a fertile breeding ground for the upcoming generation of Chinese and asian-born players. There’s no doubt that world golf and the PGA Tour will be in a much better position as a result of PGA Tour China.
