The latest top-end forged irons from Nike Golf feature a lot of new features in comparison to last years’ model. Nike has included a NexCOR face on all Covert Forged Irons. NexCOR is basically a variable face thickness technology that transfers maximum energy at impact for faster ball speeds. The cavity back also features a lower, deeper centre of gravity for longer, straighter shots. Grooves on the face are closer together (and deeper), setup in a formation Nike called ‘X3X groove tech’.
Chris Savage, Nike Golf Irons Innovation Engineer commented on these forged beauties:
“We focused on improving distance and off-centre hit performance with the VRS Covert Forged irons. It’s the first time we designed a forged iron with a high-speed NexCOR face, and engineering the variable thickness really amplifies the trampoline effect off the face. We further enhanced the performance with balanced perimeter weighting via a deep, engineered cavity back design. In our testing, the VRS Covert Forged irons delivered up to seven additional yards in distance compared to last year’s product.”
Solid performance gains for sure. While we can’t attest to a hands-on with them just yet, chances are they look, setup, and play better than last years’ set as well.
The Nike VRS Covert Forged Irons are available now for a MSRP of $1,099.
