Nike Golf has officially pulled the covers off the VRS Covert 2.0 irons. And the good news is, they’re available real soon: January 31, 2014.
Chris Savage, Nike Golf Irons Innovation Engineer commented on these beauties:
“What’s impressive about the VRS Covert 2.0 set is that golfers can be aggressive and confident with these irons.. This set utilizes our largest cavity and thinnest perimeter to deliver higher ball speed and greater distance. We have also refined our leading edge bevel to make it easier for these irons to go through the turf. Throughout development, these irons have proven to be the best distance irons we have created to date.”
In building these irons for the Covert 2.0 line, Nike shifted the centre of gravity behind the centre of the face to provide a more solid impact, and extra distance. The centre of gravity was also lowered by modifying the mass at the back of the club and shifting that weight lower in the head, and a little towards the toe. The result is a higher, more stable ball flight.
The VRS Covert 2.0 irons move much more material to the perimeter of the club head. This provides excellent conditions for a larger face, which amplifies the ‘trampoline effect’ with each and every club. Combine that the larger cavity that results, Nike’s proprietary NexCOR variable face thickness technology… and what you’ve got is an explosive iron that feels as good as it plays.
