When I received the pair of Kentwool Men’s Tour Profile socks, I thought to myself… ‘Socks eh… how good could these really be?’. Well, after some steady use, I have to say, I’m impressed.
Thankfully (for me) I love the colors sent my way. With the Masters coming up, the green and yellow pair were just, in a word, fantastic. Not much else to say here other than the fact that if you like bright colors (or even if you don’t), Kentwool has a design that is right for you.
These socks are made from 66% merino wool, 24% nylon, 8% cocona polyester and 2% spandex. The thing is though, it’s not like those materials are a true ‘blend’. The different materials are concentrated in different areas of the sock, to ensure as much moisture wicking, durability, odor resistance and (most importantly) comfort as possible.
In the end, they really are comfortable to wear around the house, and around the course. I’ve put these bad boys through a few long practice sessions, and a few rounds now. And at the end of the day they still feel pretty darn good out of the dryer.
As I touched on in ‘the feel’ above, different materials are used in the construction of this sock, and are put to use in a very smart way. Check out the image below from Kentwool that helps explain the technology.
Of all the technology built in to these socks, perhaps the feature I like the best is the extra padding on the sole of the sock. It really is comfortable, and does make a difference if you’re a bit tired, and coming up on the 16th, 17th or 18th holes.
Here are the key tech benefits as broken down by Kentwool:
- Made from Super-Fine Merino wool—one of the softest hands of any fiber
- Thermoregulatory capabilities: cools in summer, insulates in winter
- Naturally absorbent: holds up to 30% of its weight in moisture
- Natural wicking keeps moisture and sweat away from skin to keep you dry, comfortable
- Non-abrasive and friction-resistant to skin—No Blisters!
- Odor resistant—does not bond with bacteria
- High-performance fibers are easy to clean and highly durable
- Natural and high-tech fibers provide maximum elasticity to conform perfectly to your foot
- Windspun Merino wool and air-covered sorbtek are plaited throughout sock to reinforce cushioning
- Cocona fiber drastically reduces friction to eliminate abrasion and skin irritation
On the course and on the range, these socks do just fine. I know for me personally, I seek out comfort and stability in a golf sock. The Kentwool delivers these two attributes. The additional tech benefits noted above are just icing on the cake. Having a non-abrasive, door resistant sock is probably a good thing, especially on those days when you might take the opportunity to loop twice for 36 holes! :)
Caring for your Kentwools
One thing to keep in mind as you use these socks is to best wash and care for them. Kentwool recommends that you wash the socks inside out, in warm water. Of course, keep the bleach as far away as possible, and try not to use fabric softener.
When drying, do a standard tumble dry but remove them asap once the drying cycle is over.
Like I said at the very beginning of this review, I’m impressed. I never would have thought a simple pair of socks could make me go ‘oh… wow… that actually feels real nice!’ It’s true, these Kentwool socks are super comfortable, and I absolutely dig the colors that are available. I particularly love the green and yellow colors sent my way, just in time for the Masters :)
In the end, I wholeheartedly recommend this product for anyone looking for a comfortable sock that looks just as stylish off the course as it does on the course!
