Jim Furyk carded an amazing 59 yesterday at Conway Farms during the second round of the BMW Championship. The 59 was only the 6th ever recorded on tour, and interestingly enough, the ONLY 59 with a bogey on the scorecard.
To lock down the 59, Furyk hit a beautiful wedge to around 3 feet on the par-4 ninth hole (his 18th for the day). Knocking the putt right into the cup dropped him to -12 for the day, and the 59 was his.
58 was a possibility
There were a few missed putts in the mix, and a bogey on the par-4 5th, along with a par on the par-5 8th that could have easily been a birdie with a little luck on his second shot (his approach came up just short into a massive bunker in front of the green). When you take everything into account, a 58 was very much a possibility.
Well played Jim. Should be interesting to see how he fares in the rest of the tournament. To begin round 3, Furyk is tied for the lead at -11 with Brandt Snedeker.
