According to a report from Bloomberg, Augusta National has begun with their plans to demolish a 456-unit apartment complex that they purchased for $8.3 million in February 2012. Once demolished, the plan is to replace the building with a parking lot.
Sounds a bit odd, but a spokesperson for Augusta National did add that the site was to be used for parking and undisclosed support services. Chances are that down the road we’ll see new buildings, services and other good stuff on the 9.8-acre site.
Having said that, we’ve had the good fortune of attending The Masters in the past, and can definitely relate to Augusta’s need for more parking. While the staff do an absolutely amazing job getting patrons in and out of the grounds safely, getting to the course and parking CAN be a bit hectic at times.
Whatever the case, we know the folks at Augusta National will do what’s best for the tournament and more importantly, the community.
