When you think of 59, who do you think of? Al Geiberger? Chip Beck? David Duval? Perhaps Annika Sorenstam? Chances are one of those names comes to mind for sure, and with good reason. However, there’s one new name you’ll want to add to that list, and it belongs to a 16-year-old. Yes, a 16-year-old.
During the 35th North & South Junior this week at Pinehurst #1, 16-year-old Will Grimmer shot an amazing 59.
He got off to a slow-ish start, going 1-under on the first five. But after that, he went a bit bonkers to post a 30 on his front nine. As you can guess, his back was a bit better, as he carded a 29 on the way in.
To say Will has moxie might be an understatement. To finish his round, his 18th hole (the 9th hole) was a 148-yard par-3. He needed a birdie, and dropped a shot to 20 feet, and then proceeded to roll the putt into the hole for a 59. Amazing.
This reminds me of the time I shot 59… on the front nine.
